May First Friday is right around the corner!  Award Winning First Friday (2010 OutStanding Award Winner by OutFront Colorado! and Best of Denver Westword 2008 and 2009) is still the largest and LONGEST running monthly women’s party in the US!

Babes Around Denver has joined forces  with Sweet Lesbian Travel to collect much-needed supplies for Colorado schools at the world’s largest monthly party for lesbians, First Friday, May 7, 2010, 6pm to 2am at Tracks nightclub. Bring your donations directly to the Sweet table and we’ll make sure they get to schools in need. BAD and Sweet are working with  ‘The Power of Six” an organization dedicated to eliminating teacher funded classrooms in Colorado Public Schools Your unused and recycled office supplies can brighten the faces of public school teachers and students in need across Colorado. Bring your unused supplies and join a widespread effort to collect tons of supplies to be redistributed to Colorado’s public schools. Anyone donating $5 cash/check or $10 worth of school supplies will be entered into a drawing to win 2 Lady Gaga tickets for the Monster Ball Concert on July 28th. Supply list here

En Vogue to bring its powerful vocals to Denver PrideFest

DENVER — The Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Community Center of Colorado (The Center) is making sure that the 35th anniversary of Denver PrideFest is one to remember.
This week The Center confirmed that the original funky divas — R&B group En Vogue — will be headlining the Main Stage/Ultimate Event series at Denver PrideFest 2010 in Civic Center Park on June 20 at 3 p.m.
“When En Vogue takes the stage on June 20, the energy will reverberate throughout Civic Center Park,” said DeMarcio Slaughter, Denver PrideFest Main Stage Entertainment Coordinator. “En Vogue shows that we are continually raising the bar on the entertainment lineup for PrideFest.”
Originally formed in 1988, En Vogue has sold more than 20 million albums and singles worldwide, according to Billboard.com. They have won more MTV Video Music Awards than any other female group in MTV history — a total of seven — along with three Soul Train Awards, two American Music Awards and seven Grammy nominations.
According to Billboard Magazine, En Vogue was the 18th most successful act of the 1990s and one of the most popular and successful female groups of all time. The group has spent more than 2,800 weeks on various Billboard charts.
En Vogue’s hit songs include Hold On, Lies, My Lovin’ (You’re Never Gonna Get It), Givin’ Him Something He Can Feel, Free Your Mind and Whatta Man (with Salt-N-Pepa).
The Center introduced the Ultimate Event series for PrideFest four years ago. Previous artists include CeCe Peniston, Martha Wash, Sophie B. Hawkins and Deborah Gibson.
Denver PrideFest is a two-day celebration of the gay and lesbian civil rights movement. Produced by The Center, the mission of Denver PrideFest is to create a fun, safe and empowering space to celebrate and promote the heritage and culture of the LGBT community in Colorado.
Founded in 1975, Denver PrideFest celebrates its 35th anniversary in 2010. It will be held in Civic Center Park on June 19 and 20.
An estimated 275,000 people attended Denver PrideFest in 2009, creating $23 million in economic impact for the Denver metro area, according to a survey by Birchhill Enterprises.

First Friday, now in it’s 7th year, began in 2003 and quickly evolved into the largest monthly women’s party in the entire US.  Babes Around Denver aka” BAD” hosted the 1st First Friday in March 2003 and we are thrilled to be hosting our 7th Anniversary Party on March 5th at Tracks/EXDO.

Kaylah Marin, the  R & B/neo soul recording artist from San Francisco, will perform some dance hits including her #4 Top Billboard Club Play hit “On The Floor”. Babes Around Denver has been invited to connect with a few other lesbian groups for another  mixer. Wwe had more than 100 women at the December event (and it was FREEZING that night)  so this should be a great way to mingle with other women over 40.

What is a cougar? A cougar is an older woman over 40 who typically pursues younger partners. The onset of the cougar years is hotly debated. Some feel that a cougar can be as young as 35 but who really knows? Some cougars are less interested in a relationship than a sexual conquest, perhaps enjoying the fact that they are physically appealing to younger partners.

No matter what you think – it’s all in good fun so come on down for the February mixer and check it out.

Babes Around Denver has teamed up with Club Skirts to host a Dinah Party at the February First Friday  at Tracks. We will be doing give aways including some Dinah Tshirts and tickets to some of the big Dinah parties. This year’s Dinah event is the 20th Anniversary Celebration and headliners include Ke$ha, Salt n Pepa and Lolene. This WILL be the best Dinah ever – if you have not been there – GO! More than 50,000 women go to Palm Springs every year to experience this lesbian rite of passage. Hotels are going fast so book now.

Last year, tmore than 2000 women attended the  February First Friday so don’t miss this annual party. Our DJs’ Trina, Shannon and Markie will be spinning everything from CW to 80’s to Top 40 and Hip Hop. Doors open at 6. First Friday is THIS week due to the New Year Holiday. DJ Trina J spins in the BIG room all night with music for everyone. She will get the party goin with early CW then rewind to 70’s, 80’s and 90’s. As the night goes on, we will step it up with Top 40 dance, Hip-Hop and more. Huge dance floor all night. First Friday attendance was more than 20,000 during 2009 and it’s still the largest monthly women’s dance party in the US.
